Advisory Status
Students who fall below the minimum requirement of 2.7 in their major GPA based on final grades earned in their major-only courses at the end of the fall and spring semesters are moved to Advisory Status from Active Status in their major. (Advisory Status is not assigned following the summer semester.)
Students placed on Advisory Status remain in their major, and their schedule remains unchanged, except for courses where prerequisites have not been met—those will be dropped.
Advisory Status Registration Hold
At the end of the semester add/drop period, students with an Advisory Status have a chair hold (CHMAJ) placed on their account. To have the CHMAJ hold removed, students must meet with the chair of their major any time before the next registration period begins to create a plan to return to Active Status in their major. Students who do not meet with their major chair to have the CHMAJ hold released before their assigned registration time will be unable to register.
NOTE: Students cannot graduate while in Advisory Status in their major. To stay on track and progress toward degree completion, they must follow their plan to return to Active Status in their major. Students are encouraged to retake any courses that negatively impacted their major GPA to facilitate a quicker return to Active Status.
Returning to Active Status
Advisory Status is reviewed at the end of the fall and spring semesters once final grades have been verified. Students who have raised their major GPA to 2.7 at the end of the semester will be automatically returned to Active Status in their major.
The Office of the Registrar will notify students at the end of the fall and spring semesters of the following status changes:
- Changed to Advisory Status
- Remain on Advisory Status
- Returned to Active Status (*single)
