The Berklee Visiting Artist Series is a live, interactive forum featuring some of today's most innovative professional performers and creators. These moderated discussions will focus on the topics of artistry, entrepreneurship, and social justice, and students will have the opportunity to actively participate by posing questions directly to guests. This event features a live interview with singer-songwriter and producer Charlie Puth B.M. ’13, moderated by Prince Charles Alexander, professor in the Music Production and Engineering Department.

At only 28 years old, Charlie Puth is one of the industry’s most consistent hitmakers and a celebrated, multidimensional artist. Puth has amassed eight multiplatinum singles, four Grammy nominations, two Billboard Music Awards, a Critics' Choice Award, and a Golden Globe nomination. His 2018 Grammy-nominated LP, Voicenotes, was RIAA-certified gold only four days after its release and has logged over 3.4 billion streams worldwide. Written and produced by Puth, Voicenotes has received universal acclaim, with the New York Times calling it “one of the year’s best pop albums.” It features the four-times platinum-certified “Attention,” two-times platinum-certified “How Long,” and platinum-certified “Done for Me.” The album was nominated for a 2019 Grammy in the Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical category, and the Voicenotes tour resulted in massive, sold-out headline shows across North America and Asia.

Puth recently teamed up with multiplatinum singer-songwriter and producer Blackbear for a new song, “Hard on Yourself,” which seamlessly fuses funk, pop, and R&B sensibilities. The single follows Puth's 2020 summer smash hit, “Girlfriend,” which has garnered over 33 million streams worldwide in just a few months, with its companion music video racking up more than eight million views.

Puth exploded onto the music scene in 2015, writing and recording the breakout smash “See You Again” with Wiz Khalifa, which topped the Billboard Hot 100 for 12 weeks and was the bestselling song of 2015, with over 20.9 million units sold worldwide. The track received three Grammy nominations, including Song of the Year, as well as a Golden Globe nomination for Best Original Song. The following year, he released his full-length debut, the two-times platinum-certified Nine Track Mind, which spawned three multiplatinum-certified singles in “One Call Away,” “Marvin Gaye" (featuring Meghan Trainor), and “We Don’t Talk Anymore" (featuring Selena Gomez). Puth has joined forces with many high-profile acts, including John Legend, Katy Perry, James Taylor, Selena Gomez, 5 Seconds of Summer, and recently, Elton John.
