The Berklee Visiting Artist Series is a live, interactive forum featuring some of today's most innovative professional performers and creators. In this event, Jacob will discuss topics such as songwriting, theory, performance, and production. This interview will be moderated by George Russell Jr., chair of the Harmony Department.
A London-based 25-year-old, Jacob Collier has been dubbed one of the most innovative musicians of his generation. In 2012, his self-made YouTube videos attracted the praise of such luminaries as Herbie Hancock, David Crosby, Steve Vai, and Collier's current manager, Quincy Jones. His success has led to musical collaborations with Coldplay, Ty Dolla $ign, Tori Kelly, Daniel Caesar, and H.E.R., to name a few. In January 2018, Collier began designing and creating a quadruple album called DJESSE: 50 Songs, divided among four volumes, each operating within a separate musical universe of sound, style, and genre. Scattered across the four volumes are more than 30 collaborations with artists from throughout the music world. Collier has won four Grammy Awards, hosted a TED Talk, performed at and curated a BBC Prom at London's Royal Prince Albert Hall, and headlined a sold-out show at the Sydney Opera House.
