When Philip Agins attended Berklee’s Five-Week Summer Performance program, he told everyone that he entered the program “just a bass player” and came home a true musician with confidence, skills, and a love of performing. After Philip’s unexpected death in the spring of 2008, his mother Paula Agins began working to establish a Berklee scholarship to enable a student from the Westerly, RI, area to attend the program each summer.
To fund the scholarship, she has organized grassroots fundraising events, including two successful wine tasting and silent auction events. Donors to the events have ranged from local shops and restaurants to the band Metallica and microphone manufacturer Sennheiser. To date, Paula has raised almost $20,000 toward her goal of endowing a scholarship in her son’s name.
