Isabeau Miller Named Chair of Berklee Songwriting Department

Isabeau Miller BM ’06 has been named chair of the Songwriting Department at Berklee College of Music. Miller, who returned to Berklee as a faculty member in 2023 after earning a degree in professional music from the college, previously served as an assistant professor in the Songwriting Department and as an author and instructor for Berklee Online. She will begin her new role on August 1. 

“I've always believed our job isn't to tell students who they should become; it's to help them uncover who they already are,” said Miller. “That's what songwriting does at its best. As chair, I'm excited to build on Berklee's extraordinary legacy while cultivating a space where students are challenged creatively, supported personally, and prepared to thrive in a rapidly changing music industry. Great songs will always begin with something deeply human, and I can't imagine more meaningful work than helping the next generation of songwriters discover and develop that voice.”

A native of Cape Cod, Miller is a songwriter, educator, and creative entrepreneur whose work bridges contemporary songwriting practice with professional industry engagement. Over the course of 17 years as a professional songwriter based in Nashville, she collaborated with charting pop and country artists, Grammy Award–winning musicians, and leading producers. She also built a catalogue of more than 2,000 songs represented by Me Gusta Publishing.

Since joining Berklee as a member of the college and Berklee Online faculty, she has designed and led several courses that integrate creative development, collaboration, and career fluency for emerging and advanced songwriters. Miller has championed immersive industry experiences at Nashville’s Tin Pan South Songwriters Festival, providing exclusive student access to multi-platinum and diamond-certified writers through a variety of curated meetings, co-writes, and performances. Outside of Berklee, she is a TEDx speaker and Broadway producer.
