Songs by Fall Out Boy and Kanye West aren’t, perhaps, typical cover fare for a violinist. But for Berklee alumnus Brian King Joseph, an accomplished electric violinist, producing unexpected covers is part of the fun. Joseph recently advanced to the finals on season 13 of America’s Got Talenttreating the audience to his revved-up string versions of Coldplay’s “Something Just Like This,” Coolio’s “Gangsta’s Paradise” and West’s “Heartless,” among others.

A native of Washington, D.C., Joseph has played violin since age four. He played in competitions and at church as a young musician before coming to Berklee in 2012. Though Joseph withdrew from the college after being diagnosed with a neuropathy disorder, he has continued to play and post videos online. His YouTube channel has views in the millions and includes covers of an eclectic range of artists such as Adele, the Weeknd, Drake, and Michael Jackson.
