Prevention and Education

In order to honor the mission and values of Berklee, the equity team provides vision and direction for building the capacity of students, faculty, and staff members in the prevention and elimination of discrimination, harassment, and sexual misconduct based on age, ancestry, color, disability, gender, gender expression/identity, genetic information, marital status, mental illness, military/veteran status, national and ethnic origin, pregnancy, race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, transgender status, and any other characteristic protected by law (collectively referred to as “protected characteristics”), whether that characteristic is actual or perceived.

The equity team coordinates the development and implementation of ongoing preventive education and compliance training on what constitutes discrimination and harassment, and related policies; monitors compliance participation; provides compliance trainings as requested for targeted student, faculty, and staff populations; and assesses campus climate, prevention, and education needs as related to preventing and eliminating any form of discrimination and harassment for students, faculty, and staff with an emphasis on bystander intervention programs.

These education programs are initially offered in orientation programs for new students, faculty, and staff. Throughout the year, there are a number of ongoing events, trainings, campaigns, and other opportunities to learn about these topics and contribute to prevention efforts. Look out for upcoming campus events on the Equity and Title IX Events page.
