Drummer, producer, composer, and Berklee educator Terri Lyne Carrington will perform a concert celebrating her new album at the Red Room at Cafe 939 on Wednesday, September 18, at 8:00 p.m.

Appearing with her new band, Social Science, the three-time Grammy Award winner and recipient of the 2019 Doris Duke Artist Award will showcase music from Waiting Game, an ambitious new double album that boldly confronts a range of social justice issues. The album will be released via Motéma Music on November 8.

Produced by Carrington and built around her friendship with coproducers and bandmates Aaron Parks (piano) and Matthew Stevens B.M. '04 (guitar), along with other band members Morgan Guerin (bass and saxophone), Debo Ray '13 (vocals) and Kassa Overall (emcee/DJ), Waiting Game features a diverse ensemble that spans generations as well as racial, ethnic, sexual, and gender identities.

The group, which Carrington formed last year as she was founding the Berklee Institute of Jazz and Gender Justice, marries her musical passions with her role as a leading voice for equity and justice in the jazz world.

Songs on Waiting Game to be performed on September 18 will address a variety of social issues, including mass incarceration, homophobia, gender equity, and police brutality. Ahead of the concert, Carrington and Social Science will host a workshop with Berklee students focusing on cultural issues and how they can relate to art.

Tickets ($18 general admission; $10 for Berklee students) can be purchased online, at the Berklee Performance Center box office, or by calling 617-747-2261.
