Summer Student Pens Song for South African Women's Day

For the 2019 South African Women's Day, the nonprofit arts organization the Mama Project(Opens in a new window) commissioned Cape Town native Alutha Taho to write a song about empowerment and unity. The resulting anthem, "Together We Can," was released worldwide on August 9, in tandem with Women's Day, and features Taho (lead vocals) and Thulani Marks (keyboards), both of whom traveled from South Africa to attend this summer's Aspire: Five-Week Performance Intensive. Also featured in an accompanying video(Opens in a new window) are Boston Conservatory at Berklee students Shreya Navile and Fray Cordero, and faculty member Alli Ross. The Mama Project's founder, Sara Stackhouse, is the former chair of the Conservator's Theater Division.
