Hillary Reynolds B.M. ‘10 has been writing songs for long enough to know: you can never be sure where a song’s journey will lead.

The songwriting alumna, now based in Los Angeles, wrote and released several albums with the Hillary Reynolds Band, the group she formed soon after graduating from Berklee. That group has now evolved into Peridot, a folk-pop duo composed of Reynolds and Trevor Jarvis B.M. ‘09. Peridot has released a self-titled EP and several singles, but they've also been doing a bit of writing on the side. Their song "Next to You" is the lead track on country powerhouse Little Big Town's ninth studio albumNightfallreleased on January 17.

Reynolds and Jarvis cowrote “Next to You” with Michael Jade B.M. ‘09. “It was a very collaborative process, beginning with a guitar riff we all really loved,” Reynolds says. “Once the song came together, Mike’s production really brought it to life.” The track found its way to Little Big Town via Jade’s publisher, Warner Chappell.

Reynolds says she hopes to see the group perform “Next to You” live on tour. “I think what makes the song incredibly special are the harmonies,” she says. “I can’t wait to hear what they do with them.” Little Big Town is known for its four-part vocal harmonies.

“It’s incredibly meaningful to have this song cut by such a legendary group,” says Reynolds, who hasn’t heard the Little Big Town version of the song yet. “It doesn’t quite feel real yet: right now, it just feels dreamy.”
