Alumna María Pino Cohosts, Performs at Latino Festival at Fenway Park

Within weeks of graduation, María Pino (María Paula Gonzalez B.M. ’19) was working with Latino Family Festival organizers to procure sponsorships and negotiate with sponsors, edit news and promotional videos, and schedule performances with local acts and national headliners for the concert at Fenway Park. The singer and performer also served as an emcee for the festival and was part of the artist lineup alongside acts including local singer Japone RD and DJ Alex “El Menor,” salsa and merengue bands N’Klabe and Oro Sólido, and reggaetón star Tito El Bambino.

Pino helped organize this year's festival through an internship with El Mundo, a local Spanish-language newspaper. “This project was a great opportunity to apply the music business and performance education I gained at Berklee,” she said. “Putting together a concert was familiar to me, since I had previously coproduced musical theater shows and assisted fellow students in setting up their caf shows and promoting them.”

As a student Pino worked for the Berklee Theater Arts Collaborative, promoting and participating in many of its productions. “I got to directly apply my skills, learn video editing, and learn how to be a master of ceremonies and reporter along the way,” she said. 

The budding entrepreneur also recently launched her own music publishing company, MPMusicCo, and is looking toward the future. “I hope to one day start a label and sign fellow Latin artists, but ultimately I want to work on my music,” she said. “Before the end of the year, I am going to release an album comprising different Latin music genres such as reggaetón, Latin pop, salsa, and even trap.”

Pino's second single, “Tu Secreto” (“Your Secret”), will be released in September on all streaming platforms.
