Master's Degrees in Boston in 2015

Graduate studies will be offered at Berklee Boston in the fall of 2015.
January 1, 2014

By the fall of 2015, Berklee will offer master’s degree programs at the Boston campus. The first two programs to be available—a master of music degree in contemporary performance and a master of arts degree in music therapy—will join the graduate offerings that launched at Berklee’s Valencia, Spain, campus in the fall of 2012. In Spain, students may earn a master of music degree in contemporary performance; music technology innovation; or scoring for film, television, and video games; and a master of arts degree in global entertainment and music business.

The master of music degree in contemporary performance offered in Boston, like the program in Valencia, Spain, will be a one-year (three-semester), full-time residential program for exceptional performers who demonstrate strong musical proficiency and a desire to develop their performance careers. The program is uniquely global in its approach to giving participants international performance and exchange opportunities. In addition to performance studies, students will complete coursework in music business and production, but the emphasis is on musicianship and career development. All students complete unique performance projects designed to facilitate their entry into the world of contemporary music.

The master of arts degree in music therapy—with tracks in integrative medicine and research—is a two-year, part-time, hybrid program. Most of the coursework will be offered online, which adds a great deal of flexibility to the program. Students in this major will, however, gather for important symposia during the course of their studies. The program offers advanced instruction to prepare music therapists for today’s global and community-based approaches to health care and education. Students will focus on research, clinical music, technology, contemporary music repertoire, and global perspectives. Candidates for this degree will not only enhance their professional skills and knowledge but also develop as leaders in the music therapy profession.

Like all Berklee’s undergraduate degrees, the new master’s degrees are accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges. For further information, visit the Graduate Studies Office at 155 Massachusetts Avenue, Suite 302 in Boston, or send an email to graduatestudies@berklee.edu.
