Berklee Joins Consortium

September 1, 2001

In August, Berklee joined a dozen other top local colleges and universities to become the 13th member of the Boston Consortium. The other member institutions include Harvard, Tufts, Northeastern, Brandeis, and Boston universities, MIT, and Wellesley, Babson, Olin, Bentley, Wheaton, and Boston colleges.

The consortium, partially funded by grants from the Andrew W. Mellon and Davis foundations, was created by business officers at leading colleges in the Boston area. The consortium fosters a collaborative environment that enables member institutions to share innovative cost management and quality-improvement ideas.

David Hornfischer, Berklee's vice president for administration and finance, said, "We are excited to be the newest member of the Boston Consortium. Our membership will facilitate development and implementation of a variety of administrative and financial strategies and enhance communication between Berklee's staff and our Boston-area peers. Some early initiatives include access to various online and on-campus training programs for staff, participation in specialized consulting studies, and development of a shared effort for insurance review and purchase. Looking ahead, the group is planning for other joint institutional efforts such as creating ID cards, processing administrative records, purchasing, and more.”
