The Mick Goodrick Legacy Concert will feature live performances by his alumni: visiting artists Julian Lage and Wolfgang Muthspiel, and guitar faculty Tim Miller, Randy Roos, David Fiuczynski, Abby Aronson, and Norm Zocher. The show also will include video tributes by Gary Burton and Pat Metheny, Bill Frisell, John Scofield, David Fiuczynski, Mike and Leni Stern, and Wayne Krantz.

In his decades of teaching and performing as a member of the Berklee faculty, Mick Goodrick has shaped guitar pedagogy—at Berklee and around the world. His alumni have gone on to become leaders in guitar performance and pedagogy in their own right, developing unique voices on the instrument. In this concert we celebrate Goodrick's legacy, which has given thousands of guitarists the tools and perspective to understand their instrument and find their voice.

The guitarist Wolfgang Muthspiel lives in Vienna and is considered one of the most influential guitarists of his generation. After being classically trained on the violin, he discovered his love for guitar at the age of 15. An interest in both his own and improvised music eventually led him to focus on jazz. After studying with Mick Goodrick at New England Conservatory and then later at Berklee College of Music, he toured with the Gary Burton Quintet for two years, establishing an excellent reputation in the jazz scene. Starting in the mid-1990s, he lived and worked in the jazz capital of New York City. He ventured into the world of pop music with the singer Rebekka Bakken, while also pursuing the electronic project Muthspiel/Muthspiel with his brother. He also has been a regularly sought-after sideman for artists such as Trilok Gurtu, Dhafer Youssef, Youssou N’Dour, Maria João, Dave Liebman, Peter Erskine, Paul Motian, Bob Berg, Gary Peacock, Don Alias, Larry Grenadier, John Patitucci, Dieter Ilg, the Vienna Art Orchestra, and many more.

Despite his young age, Julian Lage is one of the most accomplished and prominent guitarists in modern jazz and improvised music. Anyone with even a passing interest in guitar should make sure to check him out, regardless of personal genre preferences, as he is a complete virtuoso who plays, composes, and improvises with unfailing taste.
