One of the primary hot spots for Berklee alumni and creatives of all kinds, New York City boasts greater ticket sales and more music-industry jobs than any other location in the country. Dance, theater, and a variety of other performing arts also are on the front lines of New York’s entertainment scene, which is home to Broadway and its countless theaters; dance companies such as those created by Alvin Ailey and Martha Graham; and historic and modern performance spaces. Since the early days of the industry, when songwriters flocked to the famed Brill Building, the city has bustled with songwriters and performers.
Today, it is home to many quality recording and engineering studios, including Electric Lady Studios and Threshold Recording Studios. New York City–based record labels, ticketing, and music media companies such as Sony Music Entertainment, Warner Music Group, Live Nation Entertainment, and Wenner Media are among those dominating the recording and concert industries. The booming digital realm is covered, too—the city hosts innovators such as Spotify, Sirius XM, SoundCloud, and Pandora. To top it off, some of the top advertising and public relations agencies have Madison Avenue and East Village real estate.
Berklee is also broadening its presence in the city. In September 2017, Berklee announced plans to establish a center at the historic Power Station Studios, now called Power Station at BerkleeNYC.
