The health and wellness community is for students who are interested in combining their skills and their passion for the arts with a desire to improve people’s lives. Work related to this community may use interventions based in the expressive arts to improve the health or wellbeing of individuals or communities. Populations served include people with illnesses, older adults, individuals with disabilities, veterans, and trauma survivors in settings including healthcare facilities, schools, homeless shelters, and community centers.
Other career paths in health and wellness include teaching mind-body practices to artists, researching the effects of music on the brain, and developing/teaching the use of adaptive tools and assistive technologies for artists. A health and wellness focus could also be a component of a broader career: for example, an artist could perform in settings such as hospitals or bring the opportunity to participate in the arts to underserved populations.
As a Berklee student, you can subscribe to the health and wellness community to receive Hub notifications about relevant jobs, internships, and fellowships, as well as panel discussions, visiting artists, and other related programming.
An internship is an ideal way to make inroads in any industry. Berklee's career advisors can help you navigate the process of looking for and securing an internship. Music therapy majors should connect with the Music Therapy Department to learn about the process for finding an internship.
