Shakey Graves, a.k.a. singer-songwriter Alejandro Rose-Garcia, kicks off Beyond the Band, a new series presented by Fans First Productions and Berklee College of Music in partnership with Do617. At the event, the Austin, Texas, native will be joined on stage by his agent, Keith Levy of Paradigm Talent Agency, and manager, Bodie Johnson of BackForty Management, in conversation with Tonya Butler, Berklee’s new assistant chair of the Music Business/Management Department, to discuss his personal and professional journey as an artist. The event is open to Berklee students only and takes place Wednesday, September 20 at 8:00 p.m. at the Berklee Performance Center.

Beyond the Band is aimed at providing music industry luminaries an opportunity to engage with the diverse, international community of artists at Berklee and beyond. The concept was born of a desire to learn more about artists and their professional and personal journeys, and to give them the opportunity to share those experiences in their own words to inspire the next generation of performing artists. The event is sponsored by Sound Rink, Bai, and the Verb Hotel.

Shakey Graves is a one-man blues and folk band of epic sonic proportions. In 2011, his self-released debut album, Roll the Bones, landed him a spot as the official busker of the Railroad Revival Tour with Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, Mumford & Sons, and Old Crow Medicine Show. In 2012, Shakey Graves released a follow-up EP, Donor Blues, which led to a recording contract with Dualtone Records. His first album for Dualtone, And the War Came (2014), found him expanding his approach, using backing musicians on several tracks. In 2015, he released the digital album Nobody's Fool and won Best Emerging Artist at the Americana Music Awards. He toured extensively between 2015–2016. His performance during the Chuck Berry tribute at the 2017 Newport Folk Festival drew rave reviews from Rolling Stone and Consequence of Sound. Shakey Graves is in the studio working on a new album, scheduled for release in 2018.
