The Jazz Composition Festival opens with a master class featuring two of the most influential voices in jazz trombone: Jennifer Wharton and John Fedchock. This one-hour master class explores chord melody and reharmonization through live performance on the Venezuelan cuatro. The session demonstrates how a single melodic line can be reharmonized and developed in real time while maintaining groove, form, and cultural character.
Fast and Out XIII explores how to achieve a sophisticated "outside" guitar sound by integrating whole tone, diminished, augmented, and double augmented scales with the circle of fifths/fourths, the Mother Chord, and full chromaticism.
