Careers in the Journalism Industry

This industry centers around those who write about, report on, or promote music and the performing arts. Fifty years ago, this might have been limited to a single position: the newspaper critic. Today, however, there are dozens of trade publications, hundreds of record labels, and thousands of dedicated performing arts websites looking for writers with deep knowledge of the material—to say nothing of personal blogs, video sharing sites, and other new venues for music and performing arts criticism and reportage.
