Who We Are
Established in 2017, the Black Scholars Initiative (BSI) is a college-wide program open to students in both the College and Conservatory.
BSI offers support to students and programming that celebrates the cultural and creative contributions of the African diaspora while providing opportunities for students to grow personally, academically, and artistically. This initiative is designed to help students build community, deepen their sense of purpose, and develop the tools they need to thrive at Berklee and beyond.
What We Do
Entering Student Pre-Orientation Program
Students' Berklee journey begins with a Pre-Orientation Program, which is held each year prior to the start of the college-wide fall student orientation. This program features sessions ranging from social and cultural topics to performance and community-building activities, always aiming to strengthen students’ understanding of themselves within their artistry.
Academic Year Programs and Events
Each semester, students have the opportunity to engage in workshops with our campus partners, such as the Career Center, Counseling Services, the Music Business/Management Department, Africana Studies, and more; and social-enhancing opportunities, such as roundtable discussions with industry professionals, community dinners, and more.
