Toyota has partnered with the MIT Media Lab to develop a blockchain that will store its self-driving cars. The company has decided to model its research on the Open Music Initiative (OMI) because it has successfully created a system to streamline content rights management.

The MIT Media Lab is one of the main partners in the development of OMI, specializing in the research of unconventional and disparate ideas. Toyota will use blockchain to unlock new potential, such as pay-as-you-go insurance and improved ride sharing that focuses primarily on self-driving cars.
