Leadership Development Opportunities

Berklee is committed to providing opportunities for high-performing, high-potential aspiring leaders to grow and develop throughout their careers. Berklee advances and develops the next generation of leaders through our leadership development program with Clear Rock, as well as skill development and courses through partner organizations.

Leadership Development Program

Focused on the critical leadership competencies that allow individuals to thrive, this six-month cohort-based program leverages experiential learning, behavioral theory, and coaching principles that allow participants to:

  • increase self-awareness; 
  • enhance communication skills; 
  • build and maintain effective teams; 
  • align outcomes with activities to achieve excellence; and 
  • build upon the leadership skills that are essential to Berklee’s success. 

Human Resources has engaged Clear Rock as its partner in providing comprehensive leadership development opportunities. 

This is an application-based program for aspiring leaders that requires area leadership nomination followed by area senior vice president, Human Resources, and presidential approval. Space is limited to a 10-person cohort.

Nominations will be accepted in the fall 2024. The next cohort will begin in January 2025 and continue through July 2025.

HERS

Berklee partners with Higher Education Resource Services (HERS), a leadership development organization that is dedicated to creating and sustaining a diverse network of leaders in higher education who identify as women. HERS supports the advancement of women from the start of their career all the way through to their transition into retirement. Our programs are designed to serve faculty, staff, and administrators who identify as women and aspire to become bold leaders representing greater equity, inclusivity, and excellence in higher education.

This is an application-based program for aspiring leaders that requires area leadership nomination followed by area senior vice president, Human Resources, and presidential approval. 

Aspiring Leaders Program

Sponsored by the Association of Independent College and Universities in Massachusetts (AICUM) in partnership with area college presidents, the Aspiring Leaders Program is an immersive two-day leadership development program. The program provides emerging campus leaders an opportunity to evaluate their skills, gifts, and calling in the context of the primary leadership needs in today’s higher education environment.

This is an application-based program for aspiring leaders that requires area leadership nomination followed by area senior vice president, Human Resources, and presidential approval. This program is held annually.

Vogt Leadership Development Program

Emerging leaders at Berklee can develop their leadership and reflection skills through the Vogt Fellowship, sponsored by the Boston Consortium and supported by Human Resources. Designed for up to 24 fellows (one participant annually from each TBC member institution), the program leverages experiential learning, behavioral theory, and coaching principles to help participants increase self-awareness, enhance communication and collaboration skills, and lead with greater intentionality and impact. The program is delivered virtually over seven months (with two in-person gatherings) and includes a self-rated assessment, facilitated group learning modules, group coaching, and an online learning hub.

The program runs from September 2024 to March 2025, with 13 mandatory sessions. Learn more about the program and view the schedule at the Vogt Fellowship site. Interested applicants should consult with their area leader. Participation requires area leader nomination, submitted to Human Resources for consideration.

American College of Education

The online leadership programs offered through the American College of Education (ACE) will help you develop effective strategies for communication, collaboration, cultural responsiveness and planning, and gain the confidence to step up and make positive change in your role at Berklee.

This is an application-based program for aspiring leaders that requires area leadership nomination followed by area senior vice president, Human Resources, and presidential approval. 

Executive and Management Level Coaching

Executives and managers will gain insight into work styles, and build on existing strengths and skills through one-on-one coaching. Through the lens of Berklee's culture and values, you will learn how to manage and engage your team to achieve your goals effectively in support of our institutional strategic priorities.

Harvard University’s Division of Continuing Education Workshops

Staff may attend skill-building workshops through Harvard University’s Division of Continuing Education. These programs equip you with the skills and knowledge to manage your team effectively through topics such as leading change management initiatives, developing your leadership style, and inclusive leadership for a diverse workforce. 

Participation requires manager approval in consultation with Human Resources.
