BerkleeICE Presents Remote Creativity: Digital Meetup: On March 26, 2020, Berklee's Institute for Creative Entrepreneurship brought together three artists and entrepreneurs to share their journeys and advice for fostering community during remote, isolated times.

Latin Farewell 2020: The Berklee Latin Farewell 2020 recognizes the achievements of Latinx students graduating from Berklee College of Music by bringing together Berklee’s Latin community of students, faculty, and staff.

An Approach to Brazilian Music Workshop with Anat Cohen and Marcello Gonçalves: This workshop was presented by the Berklee Guitar Department and Woodwind Department on April 30, 2020. Clarinet virtuoso Cohen and seven-string master Gonçalves performed music from their choro project and discussed the rhythmic techniques, history, and song forms of Brazilian music.

Global Connections: Innovating Online Performance Experiences: On May 26, 2020, Global Initiatives hosted a webinar about the current and future state of online music performance tools.

Global Connections: Celebrating the Modern Sounds of Egypt: On August 5, 2021, Berklee student Yassin El Noshokaty, Ahmad El Haggar ’16, and Egyptian rapper Mosalem shared their experiences of being aspiring Egyptian musicians with the Berklee community. The goal of the session was to explore the Egyptian music scene to help make Berklee more accessible to Middle Eastern students. Click the title to view the video.

Berklee at Umbria Jazz Clinics 2021: Celebrate, Learn, and Engage: On July 9, 2021, Berklee and the Umbria Jazz Clinics (UJC) presented a remote event for our Umbria Jazz Clinics (UJC) community to celebrate this historic program and look forward to our 35th anniversary program in person in 2022. Global Initiatives hosted three sessions designed for the program community to come together and celebrate the unique experience of the clinics, connect with the program directors and Berklee faculty for expert insights, and come away with some tools and approaches that musicians need to cultivate a successful professional path in today's music scene. 

Berklee Latin Music Studies (LMS) and Global Connections Present a Conversation with Amilton Godoy: On June 26, 2021, LMS and Global Initiatives hosted a conversation and master class with Amilton Godoy, legendary Brazilian pianist and founding member of the Zimbo Trio, whose prolific career has spanned 60 years. During the session, he shared his perspective from his legendary career and demonstrated some of his iconic arrangements for the Zimbo Trio and other artists. This session features an incredible who’s who of Brazilian artists as Godoy was joined by special guests Dom Salvador, Antonio Adolfo, Jovino Santos, Fabio Torres, and Helio Alves. Unlocking Your Creative Impact: Vital Elements for Being an Independent Musician: On June 21, 2021, leading music industry and creative entrepreneurship professionals from Berklee and Henley Business School hosted a series of remote sessions that dig into topics to help you elevate your skills as an independent musician.

Global Connections: A Conversation with Olle Romo: On June 2, 2021, Olle Romo had an in-depth conversation with Music Production and Engineering Department faculty Enrique Gonzalez Müller covering the real-world inner workings of what it means to be a world-class producer, engineer, and performer. Drawing from his wide-ranging experience working alongside artists like Muse, Lady Gaga, Maroon 5, Shania Twain, and Elton John, Romo unveiled the traits of a music industry professional as well as shared session demonstrations shedding light on these elusive crafts. 2021 K-Pop Summit: From May 19 to May 21, 2021, Berklee's student club K-Pop Initiative teamed up with Global Initiatives and the Professional Music Department to present the first virtual K-Pop Summit. The K-Pop Summit introduced K-pop professionals to students seeking to advance their careers in the music and entertainment industry.

Global Connections: Jamaica's Influences on the Music Industry and Pop Culture: On April 22, 2021, the Students of Caribbean Ancestry (SOCA) delivered an engaging conversation with Jamaican artists and educators Michael Sean Harris, Ashley Keiko, Joe Davis, and Othniel Lewis. Conversation with Aida Cuevas: On April 14, 2021, Berklee Latin Music Studies and Berklee Latino presented a conversation with Mexican vocalist Aida Cuevas, known as the Queen of Ranchera Music. Cuevas has won a Grammy and a Latin Grammy for her work in the regional Mexican genre. The first female singer in the traditional mariachi genre to win a Grammy, she possesses a unique voice and style that has helped her cultivate a successful career for more than four decades. Coffee Talk: Ratings Audition Special: In this bonus episode of the Coffee Talk podcast, a guitar faculty panel shared thoughts and advice on the much-feared ratings audition. Abby Aronoson-Zocher, David Fiuczynski, and Jon Finn joined the usual gang of Kim Perlak, Sheryl Bailey, and Ian Steed to dispel myths about ratings auditions and offer insight on sight-reading and improvisation skills. The sessions featured accomplished graduates of the Rimon-Berklee program who started at Rimon and finished at Berklee as they share their experiences as students and professionals. Hae Joo Kim, assistant chair of the Professional Music Department, and Jonathan Perkins, assistant chair of the Songwriting Department, shared their experiences and perspectives on the K-pop industry. Global Connections: A Conversation with Oscar D'León: On November 11, 2020, Oscar D'León shared compelling stories about his musical journey. The legendary Venezuelan artist known as the "Pharaoh of Salsa” was named Best Salsa Artist at the Venezuela Music Awards in 2014 and has had a successful touring and recording career spanning 50 years. Click the title to view the video.

Global Connections: The Art of Remote Collaboration: Chamber Music from Hell: On November 11, 2020, Berklee alumnus Chris Opperman '00 and renowned bassist, composer, and producer Kurt Morgan hosted the Global Connections Series with the Art of Remote Collaboration: Chamber Music from Hell. Global Connections: Berklee Global Academic Partner IMEP Paris College of Music: On October 29, 2020, Global Initiatives and IMEP Paris College of Music were teaming up to host this new Global Connections Series event. IMEP Paris College of Music is a Berklee Global Academic Partner located in the heart of Paris. It features world-renowned artist educators, including bassist Peter Giron and Berklee alumni and saxophonists Rick Margitza and Phil Hilfiker. Global Connections: Audience Building and Entrepreneurship for the Creative Performing Artist: On October 6, 2020, Berklee Global Initiatives hosted a webinar with prominent guitarist, entrepreneur, and Berklee alumnus Roy Ziv, who demonstrated new avenues of creative entrepreneurship in the current ecology of the music industry. This session was moderated by Laura B. Global Connections: Body Mapping for Musicians by Doug Johnson: On July 16, 2020, Berklee piano professor Doug Johnson hosted a Global Connections webinar to talk about body mapping for musicians. Body mapping is a process of developing a more accurate perception of one’s physical structure. With this newly refined and fully embodied understanding, major breakthroughs in skill and artistry become possible. For instance, when you perceive the structure and movement of your hand more clearly, it can be like getting a new toolbox with tools that are perfect for the job.
