Technology for Screen Scoring Students

As an undergraduate Berklee student majoring in film and media scoring or game and interactive media scoring, the required software and hardware listed below will be essential to your success. It is your responsibility to purchase this required software / hardware. Questions regarding software installation issues and troubleshooting should be directed to the customer support teams listed at the bottom of this page.


Required Software

All of the software listed here is offered to you at special Berklee pricing, far below the actual retail cost. 

Starting with SCRN-202 Intro to Scoring Technology students are required to have all of the software components listed above. You will continue using this software in the subsequent classes in your FILM or GAIMS major / minor.

Required Hardware

  1. Over-the-ear headphones (Sennheiser HD600 or HD650, Beyerdynamic DT990 or 900X, Audio Technica ATH-M50x, or similar)

  2. MIDI keyboard controller (Arturia Keylab 49, AKAI MPK49, or a similar model with 49-key or larger keyboard and a mod wheel)

  3. SSD hard drive with 2TB minimum capacity

Recommended but Not Required

  • Audio interface (MOTU M2, UAD Volt 1 or Volt 2, Presonus Audiobox, Focusrite Scarlett, 2i2, or similar)

  • Near field studio monitor speakers (Adam Audio T5V or T7V, JBL 305P or 308P, Focal Alpha 50, Kali Audio LP-6, or similar)

  • External computer screen


Additional Course-Specific Software Requirements

FILM-305 / GAIM-371 

As a Berklee student you are eligible to get a heavily discounted version of Pro Tools Studio for Education annual subscription for $99/year. Please follow these instructions to purchase the software:

  1. Create an account on Avid website(Opens in a new window) (do not use your @berklee.edu email for the account because you will lose access to this @berklee.edu email after you graduate);
  2. Click on this link(Opens in a new window), locate Pro Tools Studio for EDU; choose Annual Subscription or Annual Subscription (Paid Monthly) and click the Add to Card button. (Make sure you choose the “Studio” and “EDU” version!);
  3. Proceed to your shopping card and click Check out now;
  4. Complete your Academic Status Verification; and
  5. Complete the purchase.

FILM-405

FILM-487 / GAIM-489 

Students are encouraged to purchase ReelCrafter. You can get a 50 percent discount for a six-month subscription. Please do not sign up until your instructor has given you the go-ahead; each instructor has a different timing preference for their class. Due to the 6 month time frame of this special subscription opportunity, and to allow for optimal use in pursuing scoring projects and similar opportunities using Reelcrafter after graduation, your professor will let your class know when it is best for you to initiate sign-up, and then use the attached pdf for instructions to initiate purchase.
