Berklee India Exchange

Music is an integral part of life in India, and the global power of the Indian music industry is astounding. The Berklee India Exchange draws on, celebrates, and shares the rich and multidimensional heritage of Indian music as well as its modern incarnations.

The Berklee India Exchange aims to:

  • foster collaborative energy and cultural exchange between India and Berklee;
  • provide opportunities for Berklee musicians to create and perform original Indian music;
  • create mentorship and performance opportunities with renowned Indian musicians; and
  • support music education in India through access to Berklee resources, scholarships, and workshops.


Tandon Global Clinics in India take place once a year.

Watch: A. R. Rahman Meets Berklee Concert Videos

Watch all 16 pieces presented at this 2014 Symphony Hall concert honoring A. R. Rahman, and featuring him and 109 performers from 32 countries representing the Berklee Indian Ensemble, the Berklee World Strings, and Boston University's Indian dance troupe, BU Bhangra.

Sights and Sounds

The one and only Shankar Mahadevan plays with the Berklee Indian Ensemble, performing a reinterpretation of '5 Peace Band' composed by John McLaughlin.


The Berklee Indian Ensemble presents their third original, 'Pinha' by Dhruv Goel.

The Berklee Indian Ensemble's second student original, 'Arz-E-Niyaz' by Sashank Navaladi, features award-winning Indian vocalist and composer Vijay Prakash on the 219th anniversary of poet Mirza Ghalib's birth.
