Music is an integral part of life in India, and the global power of the Indian music industry is astounding. The Berklee India Exchange draws on, celebrates, and shares the rich and multidimensional heritage of Indian music as well as its modern incarnations.

The Berklee India Exchange aims to:

  • foster collaborative energy and cultural exchange between India and Berklee;
  • provide opportunities for Berklee musicians to create and perform original Indian music;
  • create mentorship and performance opportunities with renowned Indian musicians; and
  • support music education in India through access to Berklee resources, scholarships, and workshops.

Sights and Sounds

A. R. Rahman visited Berklee in fall 2014 to work with students, receive an honorary Doctor of Music degree, and be part of a concert at Boston's Symphony Hall that celebrated his music and life.


The first in a series of original compositions from the Berklee Indian Ensemble, 'Jaago Piya' was written by Armeen Musa, the first Bangladeshi student to join the ensemble.
