Ontario-born indie-folk artist Ken Yates has a penchant for saying what the rest of us are thinking. Cerulean, his latest album, finds Yates at his darkest and most vulnerable—"the worst pain comes with no bleeding," he writes—as he explores the complicated reality of navigating the world through half-clenched teeth.
Yates's "earworms of sadness" have gained him a new legion of fans, who, drawn to his "stunning candidness and relatability" (No Depression), have shared numerous fan covers on social media and helped spur a dedicated surge of audience growth.
The new album found great success on streaming platforms, where songs were shared on playlists including Your Favorite Coffeehouse, Infinite Indie-Folk, Fresh Folk, and more. Guest vocalists Kathleen Edwards, Katie Pruitt, and Stephanie Lambring lent their talents to the new songs, which were produced by Ottawa's Jim Bryson. With praise in FLOOD, Atwood, NPR Music Live Sessions, and with two Canadian Folk Music Awards under his belt, Yates has expanded his touring in recent years, supporting acclaimed artists including Passenger, Kathleen Edwards, and Stu Larsen, as he brings his "lyrical vessel of yearning and emotional reckoning" (FLOOD) on the road.
Hailing from Canterbury, England, and now based in Los Angeles, California, singer-songwriter Georgia Parker captivates audiences with her emotionally-charged vocal performances and deeply personal songwriting. With a distinctive tone and a delivery that resonates with raw emotion, Parker stands out as an artist in her own right, drawing comparisons to legends like Joni Mitchell and Alanis Morissette. Rooted in folk and indie music, Parker's sound reflects a diverse range of influences, from the introspective lyricism of Adrianne Lenker to the haunting melodies of Jeff Buckley and the poignant storytelling of Phoebe Bridgers. Her upcoming album, Same Time Tomorrow, set for release in August 2024, promises to be a testament to her artistry and evolution as a musician.
Parker’s journey has seen her share stages with notable acts such as the Nicotine Dolls and Debbii Dawson, further solidifying her reputation as an artist on the rise. With each new single release, she continues to captivate listeners and carve out her place in the music industry.
