Fresh Prospects: SYLVIÄ and ZURI

The Red Room at Cafe 939 proudly presents Fresh Prospects, a free concert series spotlighting emerging artists. Curated by Berklee students with an ear for talent, this series offers an intimate glimpse into the music scene’s future, featuring local performers making waves and capturing attention.

SYLVIÄ is a genre-bending vocalist and songwriter whose music lives at the crossroads of diaspora, emotional depth, and feminine freedom. Born in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, and based in Boston, she weaves Afrobeats, R&B, and pop into stories that feel both deeply personal and universally resonant. Her voice carries lyrics of identity, transformation, and the layered textures of love and letting go.

Rooted in vulnerability and self-exploration, SYLVIÄ’s artistry moves through grief, healing, and the journey of becoming—offering truth not only for herself but also for listeners who have ever felt unseen. Her sound is global, fluid, and intentional, bridging heritage and future, softness and strength, chaos and clarity.

ZURI is an Atlanta-born artist whose music blends neo-soul, R&B, and hip-hop. Drawing inspiration from icons like Lauryn Hill and Robert Glasper, she creates music that is both soulful and innovative. Her debut single, "inside," released in 2024, merged modern jazz and neo-soul, and achieved success across streaming platforms and earned features on outlets such as The Joe Budden Podcast.

In 2025, she released her debut EP, SUPERFICIAL, a collection rich with R&B, neo-soul, and jazz-hop influences. The project caught the attention of many, including artist AJ McQueen, leading to ZURI opening for him on the Cambridge stop of his When We Evolve Tour. As she continues to develop her artistry, ZURI remains dedicated to creating music that pushes boundaries while staying deeply rooted in authenticity and storytelling.
