Fresh Prospects: Chaiah/Matthew Drake

Chaiah, a.k.a. Chiara Baume, experiments with an organic jazz and R&B–adjacent sound made with live instrumentation and fused with sound design and electronic elements in her production. She is inspired by Alfa Mist, Hiatus Kaiyote, BADBADNOTGOOD, Sevdaliza, Björk, Mndsgn, and others. She seeks to create high states of introspection and euphoria with her compositions, making limitless sound spaces and human experiences. Chaiah has recently released her latest single, “Control/Release,” a collision of jazz and hip-hop. Her debut album will be released later this year. 

Matthew Drake is a versatile and experienced artist, songwriter, producer, keyboardist, and vocalist from Nashville, Tennessee. Their music is centered in the traditions of R&B, indie rock, electronica, and modern jazz. Guided by love and authenticity, Drake’s art is intended to inspire change, introspection, and growth, focusing on topics such as personal expression, love, and queerness.
