Blaque Dynamite
Blaque Dynamite, a.k.a. Mike Mitchell, has proven the cliché that age is nothing more than a number. He began drumming at age 2, participated in his first live recording session at just 7, and secured a range of drum company endorsements by the age of 11.
Early in his development, Dynamite gained significant musical exposure in a church setting. He began creating his own music at a young age, which fueled his passion and deep respect for the drums. Gifted across all genres, Dynamite has received numerous accolades and prestigious awards, including 14 DownBeat Music Awards. His impressive performance credits include collaborations with Grammy-winning artists such as Christian McBride, Erykah Badu, Thundercat, Michael McDonald, Bob Mintzer, Chrisette Michele, Kamasi Washington, and the legendary Clark Sisters.
In 2012, he performed on a global stage at the inaugural International Jazz Day celebration with the iconic Herbie Hancock. Shortly thereafter, Dynamite was commanding the drum kit for the virtuoso bassist and composer Stanley Clarke. He graduated high school soon after.
Fast forward, and Grammy-nominated artist Blaque Dynamite has toured five of the world’s seven continents. In 2015, he released his debut album, WiFi, with Dallas-based band Raché. His collaborations with artists such as Chief Xian aTunde Adjuah, Derrick Hodge, Doobie Powell, Kierra Sheard, Willow Smith, Talib Kweli, and Jon Bap have marked the rise of a new band leader.
