Biography

Award-winning actor and dancer Maurice Emmanuel Parent is also a singer, educator, and mentor originally from the Washington, D.C., area. He has performed off Broadway and regionally at the York Theatre, Classical Theatre of Harlem, Fulton Opera House, Neighborhood Opera Company, and Commonwealth Shakespeare Company, among many others. Internationally, he has performed with Gardner & Wife's productions in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and is a resident company member of the Actors’ Shakespeare Project.

Parent is the winner of the 2015 Independent Reviewers of New England (IRNE) Award for Best Supporting Actor (Musical) for his performance in The Color Purple and the 2008 Elliot Norton Award for Outstanding Actor (Small/Midsize Company) for his performances in Angels in America as Belize/Mr. Lies, The Wild Party as Black, and Some Men as Angel Eyes.

As an educator, Parent has taught at Northeastern University, Reed Academy, Citi Performing Arts Center, and the Boston Public Schools. He has taught master classes for New Repertory Theatre, Lyric Stage Company, Milton Academy, and the Actors’ Shakespeare Project.
