Biography

Jessie Winkler is a Los Angeles–based entertainment attorney who represents professional recording artists and advocates for the rights of creators. She is a graduate of Southwestern Law School, where she was a Wildman/Schumacher Scholar and concentrated on entertainment law through Southwestern’s Biederman Entertainment and Media Law Institute.

Before law school, Winkler attended Berklee College of Music on a vocal performance scholarship and worked in marketing and lifestyle branding at Universal Music Group Distribution. After relocating to Los Angeles, she spent several years working in music publishing at Universal Music Publishing Group, Bug Music, and BMG Rights Management. At LaPolt Law, she drafts and negotiates various music business–related agreements. She also handles matters relating to new media, film, and television, and assists clients with brand management, development, and protection.

Winkler has taught as an assistant instructor for the Legal and Practical Aspects of the Music Business course at UCLA Extension, and is scheduled to teach Music Law at the Musician’s Institute, College of Contemporary Music in Hollywood for the 2018 academic year. She is a member of the California State Bar Association, Beverly Hills Bar Association, and California Copyright Conference. She also is actively involved in organizing efforts to advocate for women’s rights in the music industry.
