Biography

Born and raised in Boston, Massachusetts, Cathy Majeski fell in love with the guitar at age 15 and went on to receive a degree in classical guitar from the New England Conservatory of Music. After spending several years teaching and performing in the Boston area, she decided to seriously pursue her other passion—songwriting.

In 1989, Majeski moved to songwriting mecca Nashville, Tennessee, teaching guitar at Middle Tennessee State University until a publishing deal came along the following year. She soon found herself cowriting with some of the best writers in Music City, including John Scott Sherrill, Bob DiPiero, Gary Burr, and Stephony Smith. She refers to this period as her “graduate school,” and treasures the lessons she learned.

Majeski has had multiple songs recorded by Reba McEntire, including the no. 1 hit “How Was I to Know” and “What If It’s You,” which reached no. 7. She won an American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP) award for the latter song in 1998.

Majeski boasts writing credits on Ricochet’s “What Do I Know,” Lorrie Morgan’s “Go Away,” and Wynonna Judd’s “Can't Nobody Love You Like I Do.” She also has written popular songs for artists such as Tanya Tucker, Pam Tillis, Shenandoah, Restless Heart, and Ronnie Milsap.
