Biography

Raised in New York City in the early 1980s, The Arcitype developed a love for music at age 5 when his father enrolled him in music school and surrounded him with instruments. Moving to Western Massachusetts, he continued his musical education and began playing classical piano. Later, he developed a love for the blues, picking licks on an old Fender Stratocaster given to him by his uncle.

The Arcitype was the lead guitarist with the blues/funk group Tip Top Deluxe, which played shows to packed houses from 1998–2000. When the band split in 2000, he began a solo career in acoustic rock and blues. By 2002, he branched out into hip-hop, seeing it as a modern interpretation of the blues.

Leaving the Berkshires for Boston, Massachusetts, The Arcitype pursued a degree in audio production and music at Emerson College. He established himself in the Boston hip-hop scene, forming relationships with the city’s best MCs, producers, and promoters. In 2008, he formed AR Classic Records to have a home for the projects on which he was working. Later that same year, he opened his own studio, the Bridge Sound & Stage, building its reputation as one of the city’s premier studios and a hip-hop epicenter.
