Allison Zatarain
Allison Zatarain M.A. '13 is the general manager of Instant Records, manager of artist services at the Orchard, founder of the Instant Love Project, and an artist manager. She began her music career as the keyboardist for the '00s New York City band Action Painters. She then received a master's degree in global music business at Berklee's campus in Valencia, Spain, in 2013, returning in 2018 as a visiting professor. While a student in Europe, she met the Orchard founders and future partners Scott Cohen and Richard Gottehrer at MIDEM.
Since 2013, Zatarain has grown to be general manager of independent label Instant Records and founded the growing Instant Love series of love songs between women to critical praise from such outlets as NPR and OUT Magazine, alongside an interview series and podcast. In 2019, the series will expand to multiple languages and countries.
In addition, Zatarain acts as manager of artist services at the Orchard, facilitating global digital distribution for various artist-run labels. She assists in the Orchard’s recording studio and with its creative lab of writers and producers developing new talent. She is a cofounder of new label Cross the Line Music in partnership with Gottehrer and Swagg R’Celious (the Grammy-winning producer of H.E.R.). She is also on an artist management team with a roster including the Raveonettes, London’s Dan Owen, and Denmark’s Fallulah.
