Singer-songwriter Johanna James tackles potential, loss, self evolution, and falling in love within her folk-inspired writing. Raised in Santa Monica, California, her inspirations come from the natural world—bodies of water, tree bark, and the murmuration of starlings. She says every song is a love song. James draws inspiration from the works of Elliott Smith, the Velvet Underground, the Cocteau Twins, Nina Simone, and Adrianne Lenker. James hopes to bring light to the inner knowings of listeners through harmonious soundscapes, jagged lyricism, and unadorned honesty.
