Mejia exemplifies the transformative power of the arts in bridging divides and fostering community—a vision that continues to inspire her contributions to research and the nonprofit community arts. She firmly believes in the efficacy of popular music as a communicative medium, emphasizing the diversity of American culture and the invaluable cultural heritage of the African diaspora, which continues to connect the world through rhythm and art. Mejia's research reflects this passion and provides evidence of the power of culture to connect.
She holds a Master of Education in instructional leadership from Tennessee State University and a PhD in global studies from the University of Massachusetts Lowell.
