Ustad Zakir Hussain will be presented with an honorary doctorate for his immense contribution to the global music community. The evening’s concert will feature the renowned Berklee Indian Ensemble, with an international cast of musicians performing original compositions, as well as new interpretations of Hussain’s timeless music with the maestro himself.

Hussain’s performances are an experience in themselves. He has collaborated with global music luminaries such as Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock, Ravi Shankar, and Yo-Yo Ma, to name a few, and has more than 149 albums to his credit.

Formed in 2011, the Berklee Indian Ensemble has become a global viral sensation, with more than 152 million views of their music videos. With musicians from more than 49 countries, the ensemble is known for its India-inspired sound: nuanced, innovative, and hip, yet accessible. From a Carnatic thillana or a high-adrenaline konnakol conversation to Indo-jazz experiments or qawwali, the ensemble performs an expansive repertoire with the ultimate goal of presenting concerts entirely comprising original compositions.

Produced by Berklee India Exchange, the concert will take place at Klarman Hall at Harvard Business School.
