Venezuelan Project is a group created by Alexis Soto in the spring of 2015. The group focuses on recovering the traditional and folkloric Venezuelan styles and combining them with contemporary genres of music world. The group's members are Josu Ortiz on piano, Ali Tovar on bass, Carlos Capacho on cuatro, Eduardo Betancourt on llanera harp, and Alexis Soto on percussion. There are other musicians that usually perform with the band, such as Orlando Retana (drums), Paul Sanchez (trumpet), Rob Taylor (bass) and Edmar Colon (sax). Since its creation, Venezuelan Project has been able to perform in multiple venues like the Berklee Performance Center, the House of Blues, Marriott Hotel Plaza, the Copley Place Marriott Hotel, and NPR, as well as multiple festivals and events like the Berklee Beantown Jazz Festival, Berklee International Folk Festival, and the Berklee Encore Gala 2015 and 2016, among others.
