Vanessa McIlvaine, who performs as Vanessa Gracious Gift, is a beloved singer, youth worship leader, and budding songwriter proudly hailing from Boston, Massachusetts. A passionate and dynamic vocalist, McIlvaine is an alumna of the Berklee City Music Program and is currently in her sixth semester at Berklee College of Music, where she continues to refine her artistry and musicianship.

From an early age, McIlvaine demonstrated exceptional talent and stage presence. At just seven years old, she won first place at the world-renowned Amateur Night at the Apollo Theater in New York City—an achievement that marked the beginning of her remarkable musical journey. Throughout her childhood and adolescence, she performed in numerous musicals and stage productions and went on to open for major gospel artists including Mali Music and Kim Burrell. She has also performed with choirs that have opened for celebrated gospel artists such as Travis Greene, Fred Hammond, MAJOR., and Kierra Sheard-Kelly.

Adding to her professional accomplishments, McIlvaine provided background vocals and received performance credits on two songs by Grammy-nominated artist MAJOR.: “I Prayed for You” and “For the Win.” These credits further highlight her versatility and growing presence within the professional music industry.

Deeply committed to ministry and youth empowerment, McIlvaine founded a youth praise and worship team at Greater Love Tabernacle in Boston. She later continued serving in youth worship at Jubilee Christian Church, where she gained invaluable experience singing background vocals for respected gospel artists including Osby Berry, Deon Kipping, and Phil Thompson.

At Berklee College of Music, McIlvaine studies under an impressive roster of esteemed vocal educators, including Gabrielle Goodman, Artist-in-Residence Ledisi, Farayi Malek, and Lydia Harrell. She has also had the honor of participating in Goodman’s Advanced Background Vocalist class and working with Dr. Lenora Helms Hammond and Berklee’s Carnegie Hall Jazz Ensemble, further sharpening her professional and performance skills.

Beyond music performance, McIlvaine has served as a youth ambassador for the Huntington YMCA, participating in creative acting collaborations and skits supported by the Huntington Theatre. She has been featured as an emerging gospel artist at the Business Not as Usual fundraiser event, and looks forward to expanding her presence at events such as Berklee’s Summer in the City, other major music festivals, and community gatherings.

With a heart for service and a passion for excellence, McIlvaine continues to build her professional music career while remaining dedicated to uplifting others and serving her community. Her journey reflects faith, perseverance, and a commitment to using her gift to inspire the world.
