Music of Michael Abene
This concert features the music of composer/arranger/pianist and artist-in-residence Michael Abene, performed by a large ensemble of some of Berklee’s finest soloists and ensemble players. Abene, who is a multi-Grammy-nominated composer/arranger, composed for Germany’s WDR Big Band from 2004-2014, and has arranged for artists including Paquito d’Rivera, John Scofield '73 H'97, Patti Austin H'00, Gary Burton '62 H'89, and Joe Lovano '72 H'98.
Abene's arrangements are played worldwide, by big band as well as orchestra. His career takes him regularly around the globe, delighting audiences in concert performances, featuring his arrangements for artists such as Randy Brecker, Dick Oatts, Terell Stafford, Dave Taylor, Maceo Parker, Mike Stern, Dave Liebman, saxophonist Bill Evans, Lee Konitz, Jacky Terrasson, Bireli Lagrene, Wycliff Gordon, Kurt Elling, Eddie Daniels, Dianne Reeves, Steps Ahead, John Abercrombie, and Tom Harrell. Abene teaches a course in jazz conducting and has the title of senior lecturer at KUG Jazz Institute in Graz, Austria.
