Boston Conservatory welcomes renowned pianist and vocal coach Martin Katz to campus for a voice master class on art song.

Katz has been dubbed “the gold standard of accompanists” by The New York Times. His 45-year career has taken him to five continents for collaborations with the world’s most celebrated singers in recital and recording. His regular artistic partners include Marilyn Horne, Frederica von Stade, Kathleen Battle, David Daniels, Karita Mattila, and Jose Carreras, and he has recorded for multiple record labels, including RCA, CBS, BMG, EMI, and Decca.

Also an active conductor and editor, Katz has led opera productions for San Francisco’s Merola program, the BBC, and Tokyo’s NHK, as well as several performances in Ann Arbor. His editions of Baroque and bel canto operas have been performed in Houston, Ottawa, and New York City at the Metropolitan Opera. In addition, Katz’s first opus, The Complete Collaborator, has been published by Oxford University Press.

For more than three decades, Katz has been a distinguished professor at the University of Michigan, where he chaired the program in collaborative piano and coached vocal repertoire for singers and pianists alike. His students are working all over the world.
