The Checkout—Live at Berklee welcomes alto saxophonist Godwin Louis(Opens in a new window) B.M. ’08 and his all-star sextet for another webcast and radio broadcast on legendary jazz station WBGO. Godwin will present music from his upcoming album Global—his first release as a leader—with Billy Buss, trumpet; Gilad Hekselman, guitar; Victor Gould, piano; Hogyu Hwang, bass; and Obed Calvaire, drums.
Global is made up of compositions that have emerged from research Godwin performed in Africa and Latin America on music exported from Africa to the rest of the world via the transatlantic slave trade. The connection between Africa; his family’s roots in Haiti; and the American birthplace of jazz in New Orleans, Louisiana; has lent itself to a beautiful and enveloping musical trek, Global, performed by these outstanding musicians, each of whom is an emerging star.
Hear the Godwin Louis Sextet live, and learn something new about the roots of the music you love. You also can watch the concert live online(Opens in a new window) on Wednesday, February 13.
This show will be seated.
