About the Artist
Sarah Brady, flute, joined the Conservatory in 2006 and is an associate professor of flute and contemporary music. Called “enchanting” by the Boston Globe, Brady is sought after across the country as a soloist, chamber musician, and master teacher. An avid promoter of new music, she has premiered and recorded music from many of today’s top composers. Her solo, chamber, and over 40 orchestral recordings can be heard on the Albany, Naxos, Oxingale, Cantaloupe, and BMOP/sound music labels. As a leading interpreter of contemporary music, she was invited to read and record new work commissioned by Yo-Yo Ma for his Silk Road Project at Tanglewood. Learn more about Brady. Robert Sheena, oboe, joined the Conservatory to teach oboe and English horn in 2000 and is an associate professor of oboe. He is also on the oboe and English horn faculty of Boston University’s School of Music and the Tanglewood Institute, and he teaches and coaches the oboe fellowship students of the Boston Symphony Orchestra’s Tanglewood Music Center every summer. Sheena is the Boston Symphony Orchestra’s English horn player, having joined the orchestra in 1994. In that role, he exclusively plays all English horn solos and parts, and he has also played first oboe, second oboe, and oboe d’amore with the orchestra. Learn more about Sheena. Jan Halloran, clarinet, joined the Conservatory in 2017 as an assistant professor of clarinet and chamber music. She also leads the Woodwind Seminar. Halloran holds the position of principal clarinet with Boston Lyric Opera and regularly appears with many of Boston’s preeminent ensembles, including Boston Modern Orchestra Project, Odyssey Opera, Boston Philharmonic, and Emmanuel Music. In addition, she is highly in demand as an orchestral musician throughout New England. She has been a member of the Portland Symphony Orchestra’s clarinet section since 1993, spends summers with Opera North, Boston Midsummer Opera, and Monadnock Music, and performs with the Rhode Island Philharmonic. Learn more about Halloran. Anne Howarth, horn, joined the Conservatory in 2021 and is an assistant professor of horn. She also teaches chamber music and the brass section of the Orchestral Repertoire course. Fueled by a passion for small ensemble collaborations, Howarth brings expressiveness, creativity, and delight to her performances. She is deeply curious about the ways in which shared musical experiences forge connections, invite deeper dialogue, and inspire contemplation. Learn more about Howarth. Margaret Phillips, bassoon, joined the Conservatory in 2014 and is an associate professor teaching bassoon and contrabassoon. In addition to private lessons, she also teaches reed making, holds a bassoon studio class, and coaches woodwind chamber music ensembles. Phillips is on the faculty at Berklee College of Music and Boston University as well. She has been a highly sought-after freelance bassoonist and contrabassoonist in Boston and the New England area for over 25 years. She has performed with the Boston Symphony and Boston Pops since 1992 and has traveled extensively with both, performing under some of the world’s finest conductors. Learn more about Phillips.Jonathan Bass, piano, joined the Conservatory’s piano faculty in 1993 and is a professor of piano. Bass has performed with numerous orchestras, and his recordings have received critical acclaim. A Steinway Artist, Bass made his New York debut at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall after being awarded first prize in the Joanna Hodges International Piano Competition in 1993. He performs throughout the United States as a soloist and chamber musician and makes frequent New England appearances at Symphony Hall, Jordan Hall, and Tanglewood.
