Reggae, because of its simplicity, often is overlooked as a sophisticated art form. Matt Jenson, associate professor of piano and creator of the Music and Life of Bob Marley class, will upend that notion as he takes you on a tour of his process, including information absorbed from his most recent trip to Jamaica.

As part of his Newbury Comics Faculty Fellowship, Jenson has created a series of videos, as well as a class called The Art of Playing Reggae. He will show video excerpts that accompany this groundbreaking “how to” course (focusing on rhythm section instruments) and discuss the importance of the intuitive nature and cultural roots of reggae, and how to teach it.

We will turn up the heat—literally and musically—with a helping of Jamaican food for all.
