Gil Smith II '99 is the most sought-after international music director, producer, and arranger in the business. Starting off as a classically trained pianist who attended Berklee College of Music, he began his career as a touring musician. His live credits include the biggest tours, award shows, and TV specials in the business, ranging from Lil Wayne to Nicki Minaj to Drake to Chris Brown to Lady Gaga, among many others.
Since 2012, Smith has been the music director for the Korean record label YG Entertainment and international K-pop sensations BIGBANG and 2NE1. In addition, he runs his own full-service music production and staffing company, SAGA Entertainment, specializing in live sound mixing, programming, and post-production. He has directed, produced, and arranged for Six Flags Theme Parks iLuminate, The Today Show, American Idol, the BET Awards, and the Grammys, among others.
Rolling Stone, Billboard, Keyboard Magazine, and MTV News have all praised Smith and his successful projects. He was featured as an ambassador for the Samsung Galaxy Music Campaign and has a wide range of corporate credits including Samsung, Princess Cruises, Intel, and Beats by Dre. He has taught workshops at Musicians Institute, Los Angeles College of Music, and the Osaka School Of Music.
