Biography

Gil Smith II is one of the most sought-after music directors, producers, and arrangers in the business. A classically trained pianist, he attended Berklee College of Music before launching a career as a touring musician.

Smith's live credits include productions with Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj, Drake, Chris Brown, Cee Lo Green, and others. Since 2012, he has run his own full-service music production and staffing company, SAGA Entertainment, which specializes in live sound mixing, programming, and post-production. Recent projects include Lil Wayne's I Ain't Sh*t Without You Tour, G-Eazy's The Endless Summer tour, and Belly at Coachella.

He has directed, produced, and arranged for iLuminate at Six Flags, Today, American Idol, America’s Got Talent, Dancing with the Stars, Saturday Night Live, the BET Awards, and the Grammys. He has worked extensively with the South Korean company and record label YG Entertainment and their artists Big Bang and 2NE1. ​His projects have been praised in media outlets such as Rolling Stone, Billboard, Keyboard magazine, and MTV. ​

Smith was an ambassador for a Samsung Galaxy Music campaign and has a wide range of corporate credits, including Samsung, Princess Cruises, Intel, and Beats by Dre. He has taught workshops at Berklee College of Music, Musicians Institute, Los Angeles College of Music, and Osaka School of Music.
