Berklee’s Housing and Residential Education team comprises full-time professional staff members who are dedicated to assisting students with questions and concerns; organizing and supporting residence hall activities; monitoring the safety, security, and maintenance of the buildings; and working to maintain thriving communities that are safe and educational.
Residential Education Team
Director of Housing and Residential Education
Ryan Anderson has served as director of housing and residential education at Berklee since October 2016. In this role, he is responsible for direct supervision and oversight of the staff in the residence halls in addition to setting the strategic direction of the residential education program, which includes the continued development of Berklee's residential curriculum and Living Learning Community (LLC) programs. His favorite thing about being at Berklee is getting to work with the incredibly talented student staff and attend their performances. Previous roles include assistant director of residential life at Northeastern University in Boston; assistant director for learning communities and assessment at American University in Washington, D.C.; and coordinator of student development at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, California. He earned his bachelor's degree in finance and his master's degree in higher education and student affairs administration from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. Associate Director of Residential Education
Eric Crumrine serves as assistant director of residential education. He earned a bachelor's degree in English from Bowling Green State University and a master's degree in higher education and student affairs from the University of Connecticut. He began his career at Berklee while working at Boston Conservatory in July 2014. In his role, he oversees the Fenway housing, supervises the department's two graduate assistants, and has oversight of hiring and training for all student staff. Area Coordinator, 150 Massachusetts Avenue
Katie Schmitt is the area coordinator of the 150 Massachusetts Avenue residence hall and has been a staff member at Berklee since May 2016. She earned a bachelor's degree in women's studies from the University of Wisconsin, La Crosse, and a master's degree in college student personnel from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale. In the resident director role, she supervises the 150 resident assistant team, co-advises the hall council, oversees the building, and works with the residential and housing operations team. Resident Director, 160 Massachusetts Avenue
Bess Tracey has been at Berklee since June 2017. Prior to arriving at Berklee, she earned a Master of Education in student development in higher education from the University of Maine while working as an assistant community coordinator for the Office of Residence Life. She also has a Bachelor of Arts in history and secondary education from Catholic University of America.
She oversees the 160 residence hall and supervises the resident assistants. She oversees all of their program planning efforts, which are done in an effort to get to know students, help them connect to each other, and make them feel welcomed by and connected to Berklee. She is also available to students who need help, are having any concerns, want to be better connected, or just need to talk.
Alexis Jankowski has been at Berklee since May 2018. In May of 2018, she graduated from Salve Regina University with her Bachelor of Arts in psychology and minors in both neuroscience and women, gender, and sexuality studies. She is currently a graduate student at Boston College's Lynch School of Education where she is earning a master's degree in mental health counseling. As a graduate assistant alongside Alberto Ponce, she will create educational and professional programming for the resident assistants (RAs) who work in the residence halls. She will also participate in the RA training and selection committee, and facilitate meetings for the hall council presidents. Although it's a hobby now, she started playing percussion in school at the age of 12 and has kept up with it ever since. In her spare time, she enjoys reading and exploring Boston. Residential and Housing Operations Team
Associate Director of Residential and Housing Operations
Alanna Gaffny joins the Berklee community after working at Merrimack College. At Merrimack, she worked as an area coordinator and served as the advisor for the residence hall association. Before joining the Merrimack team, she was a residence director at Northeastern University.
She received a bachelor's degree in art history and history at the University of Massachusetts, Lowell, in 2012, and received her Master of Education in higher education administration in 2014, also from the University of Massachusetts, Lowell.

Housing Operations Coordinator
Jeremy Vaughan serves as the Housing Operations Coordinator. Prior to coming to Berklee, he completed his Bachelor of Music in composition at Shenandoah Conservatory and his Master of Music in composition at Boston Conservatory.
