Student Employment Coronavirus (COVID-19) Information for Families

The Berklee Career Center and Student Employment teams understand the importance of our student employees as well as the tremendous support roles they play within the Berklee community. We are also aware of the financial support that on-campus employment provides to our students. We've kept this in mind to create the coronavirus (COVID-19) and student employment policies that address remote work, on-campus work, and compensation.

We understand that this is a time of uncertainty and confusion, and we want to alleviate some anxieties that can come from financial burdens. We recognize the financial hardship that lost work can mean for our student employees, so Berklee will continue to pay all of our student employees their regular pay during this period of reduced service needs, independent of whether their full services are utilized. We will continue to evaluate the situation as more information becomes available.

Students can review our updated policies both here and on our website (login required). These policies will go into effect on Monday, March 23, 2020. Below are some key highlights.

Remote Work Policy
  • The Office of Student Employment will offer the possibility of working remotely to student employees whose work can be performed at locations other than traditional, on-campus workspaces.
On-Campus Work Policy
  • No student employee will work in an on-campus office or facility.
Compensation Policy
  • Berklee will continue to pay all of our student employees their regular pay during this period of time, independent of whether their full services are needed.
  • Student employees are encouraged to complete work remotely, if possible, as well as to take advantage of the professional development opportunities suggested on our website.
  • Student employees should continue to enter their hours into Workday by 2:00 p.m. on Fridays, as usual.

Our primary goal, as always, is to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our students and their supervisors. Our hope is that these policies are able to help students focus on their health and wellness while navigating the circumstances of digital learning and working.
