Ron Savage Named Interim Provost
Dear Berklee community,
I’m pleased to share the news that Ron Savage, vice president and executive director of Berklee College of Music, has been appointed Berklee’s interim provost, effective February 1, 2026. Bringing a wealth of experience to this role, Ron is uniquely positioned to provide continuity and consistency of leadership during the interim period. As interim provost, Ron will serve as the chief academic officer for the institution and provide overall leadership for Academic Affairs, including the continuing work to advance Berklee’s strategic plan.
Ron has distinguished himself over four decades at Berklee, first as a student and then as a faculty member, academic leader, and passionate community advocate. Since 2022, Ron has provided oversight of and direction for all academic programs, operations, and faculty and staff for the college’s three divisions. His work has included advancing initiatives that strengthen our global reach, innovation, and the student experience, as well as expanding interdisciplinary performance opportunities, enhancing faculty development, and broadening global engagement.
Beginning in 2018, Ron served as dean of the Professional Performance Division (PPD), where he championed successful initiatives on diverse hiring, new curriculum development, and student recruitment. Ron joined Berklee’s faculty in 1993 and was appointed chair of the Ensemble Department in 2000, serving in the role for 17 years before being named interim dean of PPD. During his tenure, Ron has been a key member of Berklee’s admissions team, recognizing outstanding musical talent through more than 10,000 auditions at sites around the world.
We will conduct a comprehensive national search for Berklee’s next provost. That work is underway, and we will share a more detailed update about the search process in the coming weeks.
Please join me in thanking Ron for stepping into this important role and congratulating him on his appointment.
Sincerely,
Jim Lucchese
President
