Mission. Founded in Boston, Berklee is a global community of musicians, artists, and educators who cultivate professional excellence and develop innovative fields and practices. Anchored in a vision of contemporary performing arts education that centers diversity in all its forms and the artistic traditions of the African diaspora, Berklee fosters an equitable and inclusive culture of teaching and learning. Our transformative educational experiences prepare students for purposeful lives and careers as creative leaders in a rapidly changing world.

Guided by our fundamental values, Berklee’s strategic plan will help us realize our Vision as the world’s leading music-centric performing arts educator with three key priorities that put our students at the center and meet our ethical obligation to:

  • Affordability. Make Berklee more affordable and accessible for the most exceptional students around the world. 

  • Careers. Put our students in first position for creative careers. 

  • Sustainability. Ensure the sustainability of Berklee’s mission and singular role in the world.

Affordability

We will make a Berklee education substantially more affordable to attract the world's most exceptional students through lower-cost partner pathways, growing scholarships, and student supports that increase retention and completion. 

Goals:

1. Lower-Cost Partner Pathways
Reduce Berklee’s cost to deliver an undergraduate degree through deeper partnerships with our current Global Partners.

2. Increase Need-Based Scholarships
Increase scholarship capacity that will meet more demonstrated need.

3. Retention and Completion Support
Improve retention, degree completion rates, and equity in student outcomes.

Careers

We will prepare students for creative careers through the most innovative, flexible, and rigorous music-centric arts education, deeply integrating technology and experiential learning to connect careers to the classroom while setting new standards for alumni career support.

Goals:

1. Modern, Flexible, and Experiential Curriculum
Evolve our curriculum to be more flexible, innovative, and career-focused embedding experiential learning into credit-bearing courses while maintaining timely graduation and the rigor that defines a Berklee education. 

2. Career Labs and Innovation Spaces 
Launch industry engagement research and career labs that are responsive to the greatest technological disruption to creativity in our lifetime.

3. Alumni Engagement and Support 
Set a new standard for postgraduate support, with a focus on recent graduates.

Sustainability

We will ensure the sustainability of Berklee’s mission and singular role in the world by launching next generation programs that model the future of learning and creativity, developing technology to support and tell the stories of our community.

Goals:

1. Diversify Revenue Through New Learning Experiences
Diversify revenue through new learning experiences to ensure sustainable growth and transformation.

2. New Technology Product Development
Develop technology support to empower our faculty, staff and students with advanced insights, support and personalization.

3. Maintain Our Mission. Tell Our Stories. 
Expand Berklee’s reach, market position, and stakeholder engagement by maintaining our mission and telling our stories.
