Thousands of high school students converged at the Hynes Convention Center to play big band numbers, shine with solos, and impress with small ensembles at Berklee's 41st annual High School Jazz Festival on January 31.

Along with the 3,000 students and 200 bands competing for top honors and tuition scholarships to Berklee, the day featured concerts and clinics showcasing trombonist Delfeayo Marsalis, vibist Jason Marsalis, and drummers Gregg Bissonette, John Blackwell, and Terri Lyne Carrington. Student bands included the Berklee Concert Jazz Orchestra as well as the P-Funk, Salsa, and Tower of Power ensembles.
